They stood side by side on the shore and argued.
“You are blocking out my sun.”
“Tough for you.” The tree laughed in the breeze. “You loser! You’re drinking all my water.”
“Your water?” The tree shook a limb. “The water is for everyone. The—”
“You’re always crying about my height, but you never—”
“You’re always whining about water, but you never—”
“Who’s that?” asked the tree. Its limb pointed toward a man approaching on the path.
The man stopped, looked at the trees, and pulled a chainsaw from his bag.
The engine roared, belching smoke through their fuming argument.
