Handwriting

His eyebrows were bushy. She handed the analyst the handwriting, a letter to a soldier overseas and twenty dollars.

His smile was warm and smooth. His voice melodic and fast-paced. He scratched his chin.

“So, you are energetic and enthusiastic. And very spontaneous.” He paused and turned the page over. “I’d say even youthful and a bit flirty. Was this letter written to someone you care about?”

“Yes, it was. To my boyfriend. He’s a Marine.”

The analyst’s head bobbed up and down as if attached by a spring. “I see.”

“No, you don’t. My mom wrote him this letter.”
