Screen Door

Between us stands this old screen door and something more. Out here explorations of the world can begin.

There is no time but the present. A bush rustles. The screen breathes. Hints of bacon, cheese, peanut butter drift to me.

I call to you, again and again. My voice echoes loud and clear into the cavernous interior. Are you there? I worry. Tentatively, I reach out to swipe at the screen. The old door rattles.

Pacing resumes as I try to see deeper inside. What could possibly bring such delay? I cry low in anguish.

Faintly, I hear video games.
