The cellphone rang then the TV flashed white, black, white again. Julius glanced up at the TV as his phone rang a second time. Without checking, he lifted it to his ear.
“Hello, Julius,” said the husky feminine voice.
Oddly familiar. “Yes.”
The shrill warble detonated in his ear, lanced his brain. His knees buckled. Just before he blacked out, a wave crashed out of the TV. Cold salt water stinging his unblinking eyes.
He awoke walking, his loafers filled with tide and beach. Other people staggered about.
Julius heard the wind, its deep voice cooed, “Welcome home, Julius.”
